User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Amazing picture quality
Our old tv we had for the past 19 years went out and my husband was over joyed. We looked at all of the latest mfg/models and the Sony Bravia Z series stood out from all of it’s competition. The TV was delivered to our home within 72 hours and the delivery company CEVA provided white glove service hands down with the install/setup. The picture quality is amazing and it can be seen perfectly from all angles. The silver trim looks sleek and you have no finger prints to worry about. All channel changing is done through our DirectTV remote and our family and friends can’t stop commenting how awesome the picture quality is.

This TV was purchased from Amazon and not any of the 3rd parties that sell off Amazon. I’m 100% satisified with my purchase and CEVA with the white glove service they provided. Amazon is a company you can trust with small and large purchases.

5 Stars Superb Viewing
We did a lot of research and viewed many different TVs over a three month period before settling on this Sony Bravia. We have been completely satisfied with its performance, clarity, brightness, and ease of installation. It helps that the rest of our components are Sony and the HDMI interfaces make 1-button playing of DVDs feasible. However, we have ended up with 3 Sony remotes…and no one remote actually can control all the features of each component. We can live with that, but it is a nit Sony should try to deal with.

4 Stars Solid TV at the Right Price
By now, you should know all about this TV’s specs – 120 hz, special Sony technology that’s just one notch below XBR, etc.

Aesthetically, this TV is same as the rest of the cheaper W- and Z-series. In fact, bar speakers are less pronounced in this one (could be good or bad) with transparent bar in between.

Besides visual quality (color saturation, sharpness, viewing angles, etc.), its ultra-thin bezel makes this 40″ very sleek. That’s usually good if you have a small space but want the biggest TV possible. However, psychogically other 40″ TV’s may look bigger simply because there’s more frame panel.

Sound-wise, speakers are adequate but not nearly as good as a heavier duty unit (XBR – I know, because I have a 7 y.o. XBR CRT that’s better).

As for inputs, they are adequate but you’ll need to make sure you have the right mix of s-video, HDMI, PC/VGA component and regular coaxial. This TV fits those with a mix of newer and older gadgets.

Finally, worth mentioning that this TV – as with others – does emit some heat so make sure it’s well ventilated. There are plenty of other features not yet test though – SONY picture viewing via USB, TV Guide, etc. but once activated, I’m sure they are more than fine.

Overall 4.5 stars, with a 0.5 off do to aesthetics and sound quality. Otherwise, really great value, especially when on sale.

5 Stars A Real Winner
Excellent picture quality, even in a brightly lit room. No visible motion artifacts. Does a great job at upconverting standard definition program materials, like DVD’s.

5 Stars Sony Bravia 40″ TV w/120hz refresh
Very nice picture and a new thin screen design. Has almost all the extra features of the XBR with only two exceptions that I don’t care about. Not too thin like the new Samsung which seems flimzy and subject to easy damage. All the input and output choices you could want including an Ethernet port, USB, 4 HDMIs, etc. If I had to pick a weak point, I would say the sound is not as good as advertised which is unusual for Sony but I don’t depend on the internal speakers anyway so I don’t care. Over all, a great TV with excellent picture and good quality sound, just not the simulated 5-channel performance that is advertised.
