5 Stars A Beautiful and Engaging Film of the Highest Quality
Films like these take me back to a different time… “Little Dorrit” is perfectly adapted, perfectly casted, perfectly directed, and perfectly shot. There is really nothing bad to say about this film that not only transcends 90% of what’s been in theaters lately, but tells a truly engaging and worthwhile story that will never leave your mind or your heart.

Highly recommended!

5 Stars Maybe The Best Made For TV Series Ever Made
If you haven’t seen this series get a copy of this DVD any way you can – beg, borrow or steal it. This is a lesser known Dickens tale masterfully adapted for the screen. A timeless rags to riches to rags tale that runs the full gauntlet of human emotions and is filled with characters from every walk of life. The cast, acting, sets, cinematography and editing are all absolutely first class.

This is not ever going to be a pop culture favorite but if you enjoy classic drama you will be hard pressed to fine anything any better. The story is fairly complex given it has so many characters whose lives are intertwined but the use of flashbacks helps keep the audience up to speed plus gives the program a rich texture and depth that is not very common today. Kudos to WGBH (Boston) and the BBC.

Bottom-line: This series (5 episodes) should not be missed – you will be depriving yourself of four or five hours of true cinemagraphic enjoyment if you do.

5 Stars Very nicely done!
I recently watched all the Masterpiece Classic Dickens adaptations on PBS. I had no idea what to expect with Little Dorrit, since I’d never read the book and I didn’t have any idea what the story was about. The length was daunting, and for that reason I almost didn’t watch it. But I’m sure glad I did, as it turned out to be one of my favourites (along with the new version of Oliver Twist).

The cast, costumes, and look of the film were all wonderful. From what I can tell, a couple of things were changed from the original book. While these make this new production no less enjoyable, they were slightly confusing. However, this shouldn’t stop people from watching this lovely adaptation.

5 Stars Excellent Adaptation!
Two thumbs up for Andrew Davies “Little Dorrit”.

Excellent story line, great plot, and a superb cast.

In my opinion, this is the best Dickens movie made to date.

I will add more later…

4 Stars Sensitive portrayal of the story
This is a wonderful production. The actors were marvelous– especially those playing Amy, her father and Arthur Clenham. Little Dorrit is a story of how people deal with poverty such as Amy’s being born and growing up in a debtor’s prison. Also, there are her father’s difficulties in finding self esteem and acceptance even when he is freed from the prison and has to struggle to gain acceptance in a society in which status is considered of prime importance. Amy’s compassion for her father is shown with great sensitivity– especially when she comforts him when he feels he is a failure because he is in prison and has lost his former life of wealth and success. And there is that moving moment near the end of the story when Amy and Arthur Clenham realize that they have a fortune in their love relationship even though it looks as if their money is all gone. This miniseries is so good that seeing it makes you want to read the book.

The only drawback with this set is the case that was provided. The four DVD’s would not snap back in the case after I played them because the hubs wouldn’t hold the discs in place. I am storing mine in Memorex Twin Cases instead of the one which came with the set in order to prevent the DVD’s from being dislodged. The DVD’s have quite good sound and picture quality and viewing them is a pleasurable experience. But considering the price of the set and its contents, it seems that it could have been offered with much better packaging.
