A Whole New Mind

A Whole New Mind

With visionary flare, Pink argues that business and everyday life will soon be dominated by right-brain thinkers. He identifies the roots and implications of transitioning from a society dominated by left-brain thinkers into something entirely different—although at times, he seems to be exhorting rather than observing the trend. As a narrator, Pink delivers in a well executed manner, with occasional hints of enthusiasm. He maintains a steady voice that is well suited for a business-oriented text, and his crisp pronunciation and consistent pace keeps listeners engaged and at ease. Updated with new material. A Riverhead paperback (reviewed online). (Feb.)

5 Stars Speedy shipment, fantastic condition!
I was quite pleased with the prompt shipment of the book I purchased. The condition was as good or better than noted on the Amazon listing.

5 Stars Intriguing and Refreshing
A Whole New Mind by Dan Pink really gave me a better idea of what is happening in our culture today. I am now looking at things with an enhanced understanding of important trends currently taking place.

Indeed the concept of heading toward more of a right-brain focused society is intriguing and refreshing. Everything, in my opinion, takes on a deeper breadth of joy and fulfillment as we implement design, story, symphony, empathy, play, and meaning into our work and life in general.

It fits in well with my business of helping people discover and work at what they love.

5 Stars Eye opener, reason to reflect
I must say that I loved this book. It is an easy read that discusses some very interesting ideas and concepts on left/right brain thinking, and why the author thinks right-brain thinkers will rule the world.

The first part of the book is essentially talking about the left/right brain model, according to which each side of the brain is responsible for different kind of functions: the left side for more rational, analytic, logical, sequential kind of thinking, while the right side is involved in more holistic, non-sequential, artistic, contextual, big-picture kind of thinking. Then it goes into discussing the current, dying era, the Information Age, how it is dominated by knowledge workers, and how Abundance, Asia, and Automation will bring it to and end and make room for the new era, the Conceptual Age, dominated by creators and empathizers.

The second part talks in details about the six senses that a right-directed thinker must master to be successful in this new upcoming Conceptual Age: design, story, symphony, empathy, play and meaning. Moreover, the author argues that anyone can master these 6 senses, and provides for each one of them a nice portfolio with very concrete ideas that one can use to develop that particular sense.

One thing that I liked in particular was that it puts everything in a larger context and looks at the big picture (r-thinking :) – I love the stories about John Henry and Garry as a symbol of the dying. Also, in the second part, while discussing each of the six sense, there is a portfolio with very concrete resources to help one master each one of these six senses.

Regardless, whether you buy in into this right/left model or not, one thing is for sure, that is, that there are people that exhibit more right or left tendencies in their thinking. With this in mind, for the right-brain thinkers in particular, it is totally worth thinking about the fact that the times are changing, that there is another side out there, and that the status quo with respect to what’s valued seems to be changing.

5 Stars A whole new mind
Finally, a book that let me know there is a place for creative storytellers who see design everywhere they look! The further I got into the book, the more I rejoiced that my day has arrived. Thankfully, I do not need to fear that what I do best will be exported to the third world. If you have wondered what dreamy-eyed idea-generating story-tellers can do with their lives–read this book. Thankfully, the author added many resources after each topic to give substance to the pursuit of the dominant right brain.

5 Stars Book Changed my Life
Before I read this book, I used to smoke marijuana all the time. I weighed over 300 pounds, did my dishes in the tub. After reading this book and getting my new brain, everything changed. I got a beautiful wife. I look and feel great. I bought a new boat. With my new brain I can do anything.
