1 Star No TV schedule available
I purchased this accessory to record television off of my satellite television. According to the specificationa, program scheduling could be downloaded from the Archos servers. This promise turned out to have been false. Archos customer service says the “servers are down”, but this has been going on for weeks. If you want to use an Archos tablet as a Tivo device, don’t buy it.

4 Stars Archos DVR Station
I bought an Archos 5 for my 2.5yr old to use on road trips. The DVR station was a must have for me because I copy cartoons/kid’s from cable stations or from cable DVR. There is also a TV channel guide you can load to allow the Archos to act as a DVR station itself to record shows on a schedule basis. The only downside I see is it can only record one show at a time (because it physically changes your cable box to the channel you want to record at a specified time). My current cable DVR box can record 3 at once. It is also convenient for charging the Archos device. I highly recommend purchasing this along with your Archos.

I loved my old Archos 500, but left it on a plane. Decided to get the Archos 5 and the DVR station. Both are a little buggy with inconsistent performance. I’ve already returned both units for replacements, but probably should wait on the Archos 5g. The first DVR station had the tendency to freeze the Archos 5 requiring numerous resets. Unsure whether it’s the 5 or the Station.

The concept is nice and it was pretty easy to connect the Station to the TV. However, the TV Guide function did not work for my area (Wash. DC area). There may be too many channel guide options in the area. I did successfully get the 5 to record manually. Still, both 5 units had problems syncing video and sound. Lips move out of sync with sound. Maybe it will fix itself with time.

1 Star DVR station won’t work
I got this DVR station as part of a bundle deal with an Archos 5 and it does not function as advertised. I actually went through two of these and neither of them work properly. I tried connecting it to a Vizio HDTV and I could not get it to output through HDMI, Component (RGB), S-Video or Composite (yellow, red, white). I tried multiple cables of each type and tried connecting it to 2 different HDTV and an old standard def tv. It worked twice but if I undocked and redocked, it wouldn’t work again. I thought it was a bad DVR station and Amazon sent me a replacement but I had the same results (or non-results?) with the second one too. I called Archos tech support and they thought it was the DVR station(s) too because I did everything right with the connections and various cables. It was able to get input from a digital tv tuner and record with no problems. I’m only keeping it because I don’t want to deal with a second return, because I got an extremely good price on the bundle and it’s worth it to me to keep as a charging base even though I can’t output to my tv.
