His Lady Mistress

His Lady Mistress

Compelling, compassionate . . . filled with emotional intensity, Rolls’ latest is a sexually charged novel that also will tug at your heart. — Romantic Times, October 2005

5 Stars Great Beginnings
This book is an excellent story of a historical period, love and passion, and plenty of twists and turns. The free price got me to read it, and I am hooked. Elizabeth Rolls’ skill is followed up with the same characters in future books, the bachelors being friends and brothers. I’ve paid for those books so it should say something about the hook for me!

1 Star Hero with a mile-wide Mean Streak
…and extreme mood swings pretty much signals severe personality disorder. Run, Verity, run! As other revewers have said, Max starts out well but quickly turns into a jerk for wholly imagined reasons. The lame big misunderstandings are too frequent and lack believability. Plot has a retro 80s feel - and not in a good way.

I have to say for my first voyage into romance novels this one had me on the emotional wrecking ball. I thoroughly enjoyed the pain I shared with Verity, and the joy. I could relate to the heroine and that, I think, is so very important when reading anything, but especially romance. Like I said, this was my first romance but if this is an indication of her other work I will read more. The connection she was able to create between the reader and the characters was palpable. I wanted to comfort Verity and share her joy. I wanted to slap Max, on multiple occasions, and then explain how dense he really was. This was not at all what I expected of a romance, but that is one of many areas that I am not learned. I read the book in one sitting and still yearned for more about Verity and Max. I would recommend this book to my friends.

5 Stars Sweet and Sexy
This is the book that got me into Elizabeth Rolls, and I loved it. The romance was wonderful and very sensual, the characters are believably flawed (sometimes this is difficult for romance novelists to accomplish) and while it is (as always) frustrating to see how their problems could be cleared up with an honest conversation about their misunderstandings, it is easy to see how the misunderstandings come to be and why each character stays within themselves instead of becoming vulnerable. Max’s difficult family life is further explained in “A Compromised Lady,” which is the story of Richard’s romance. I have read and reread this book - LOVE IT.

5 Stars His Lady Mistress
I really loved this book. It was such a great love story! It was written well and easy to read. If you love the 1800s and romance you must read this book.

Wicked Prey

Wicked Prey

Danger stalks Lucas Davenport at work and all too close to home, in the superlative new thriller by the #1 New York Times’ bestselling author. For twenty years, John Sandford’s novels have been beloved for their “ingenious plots, vivid characters, crisp dialogue and endless surprises” (The Washington Post), and nowhere are those more in evidence than in the sudden twists and shocks of Wicked Prey. The Republicans are coming to St. Paul for their convention. Throwing a big party is supposed to be fun, but crashing the party are a few hard cases the police would rather stayed away. Chief among them is a crew of professional stickup men who’ve spotted several lucrative opportunities, ranging from political moneymen with briefcases full of cash to that armored-car warehouse with the weakness in its security system. All that’s headache enough for Lucas Davenport - but what’s about to hit him is even worse. A while back, a stray bullet put a pimp and petty thief named Randy Whitcomb in a wheelchair, and, ever since, the man has been nursing his grudge into a full head of psychotic steam. He blames Davenport for the bullet, but it’s no fun just shooting him. That wouldn’t be painful enough. Not when Davenport has a pretty fourteen-year-old adopted daughter that Whitcomb can target instead. . . .And then there’s the young man with the .50 caliber sniper rifle and the right-wing-crazy background, roaming through a city filled with the most powerful politicians on earth. . . . Rich with his brilliant trademark suspense and some of the best characters in suspense fiction, Wicked Prey is further proof that “Sandford is one of the most consistently entertaining crime writers working today.” (Booklist).

I don’t care about the Kindle price at all. What irks me about this book is the author’s inability to keep his political opinions to himself. This has become a pattern with Mr. Sandford and I complained about it directly to his web site regarding a previous book. His webmaster told me thar t it was Mr. Sandford’s book and he could put what he wants in it. Well, after I pay sixteen dollars for the book it becomes mine and I don’t want to read the author’s political opinions. I can get plenty of political rhetoric on FOX and CNN included with the price of my cable service without paying for it in a novel. I like Mr. Sandford’s writing and I would like to be able to enjoy the books without being reminded of the reality of our crappy politicians.

1 Star This is a new frontier and we must act…
If, years and years ago, record companies had had an online review venue where people could have directly endangered the sales of overpriced CDs by complaining about their cost as relative to other formats, then the record business might not be in a shambles right now. They might have adapted and understood that format changes can be game changers. Digital delivery is the biggest game-changer yet.

This is our chance to explain to Amazon and to authors and distributors that charging $1 less for an electronic version of a book is not acceptable. Either you lower the electronic price or you raise the paper price, no alternative. One star till then.

5 Stars Another Blockbuster!!
I read this book on my Kindle and LOVED it! It was well worth the price. I’ve read all the books in this series and will anxiously await the next one. Keep them coming Mr Sandford!!

1 Star mudda stevensville mi
i would like to read something written by this author but am not willing to pay the inflated price of amazon. who loses the author

5 Stars A great addition to the series
Sandford is one of the few authors that can sustain a series with quality books even when he is at #18 or #19! Lucas Davenport confronts danger both on the home front from a pimp and thief who feels Davenport put him in a wheelchair and also faces danger during the Republican National Convention in St. Paul.

The book contains Sandford’s usual complex, tightly woven plot. Lucas Davenport just gets better and better with age!

It is well worth reading. And by the way, all of the one star reviews are ignorant Kindle owners who HAVE NOT read the book, but are protesting the price! Instead of reviewing the book, they have chosen to punish the author for the price.

IGNORE THEM. READ THE BOOK–you won’t be disappointed!
