5 Stars Initial thoughts.
Ordered TV from amazon.com delivered by Pilot. It was delivered a day sooner than the earliest date promised. Overall experience w/ Pilot was way better than CEVA.
As for TV, I bought Sony KDL 52v5100 but I was so disappointed with Sony’s picture quality and features of that tv that i decided to break my loyalty with sony after so many years. I will need to post an update as it has only been 24hrs since i got this tv, but my initial reaction is that it seems to be great. looks are good and it is full of features. beats a comparable price-range sony anytime. picture quality is also very good. one thing i noticed though, is that there is a gap b/w the glass surface and the actual LCD (less than 1/8inch). keeping my fingers crossed, as i have heard bad things about samsung customer service.
Update #1: Ok here is an update. For some reason the tv keeps forgetting fav channels!! This may not be relevant for many ppl but I have hooked up CATV cable directly into the tv. So when I add a fav channel, a bit later the channel goes missing from the fav list. The same thing happened to different channels at different times. Flipping channels though is much better – actually its pretty awesome. I was used to Sony, which takes annoyingly long time to change channels. But like I said, this may be a non-issue if you are using a cable box.
Also, hooked up LAN cable and it would not pick up automatically so had to input all IP/DNS addresses. Internet activity is a bit slow (probably due to slower processing). Yet to check out how DLNA works. USB functionality is great – plays almost all video files, displays pictures in crisp quality, plays music etc.
5 Stars So worth it!
I ordered my TV when there was a promo for free blue ray player with a Samsung TV purchase. It was delivered within the early part of the following week. I am very pleased with the picture quality and other features of the TV. And with a free sony blue ray player, I really think I hit the jackpot with this Amazon deal. I will highly recommend this to anybody.
5 Stars EXCELLENT 55 INCH LCD TV

5 Stars pros and cons, but astonishing!
Pros and Cons, but overall a GREAT TV! For the past two years i have used a samsung 46″ lcd (720p) with the bdp-1500 blu-ray player and it was great. Though due to a problem, i had to switch it under warranty and got this 55″ in its place. First off, whoever said you cant tell the difference between a 720p and a 1080p, is dead wrong. there is a world of difference. i was using the same blu-ray player on both tv’s, and watching it is a world of change! So anyone thinking of a 720p thinking its “close enough” its really not…. there is a HUGE visual difference.
Now, getting to the TV itself. I had a little problem getting the tv to recognize the bluray player. So much for plug and play with the hdmi cable, took about 40 minutes on samsung phone support to resolve, so incase you also get a “mode not recognized” go into the tv settings and change “anynet” to “off” , hookup the bluray using the red/yellow/white cable to the tv and go into the bluray menu, and do the same. then turn them both off, connect with the HDMI, and your in business.
Pros:
Absolutely no question this tv has clarity! It is amazing, we watched dark knight on bluray and were totally blown away, watching a movie we saw before, but in a whole new way! it looks just like the store set ups with all the bells and whistles lol, cant stress how GREAT the picture is. Watching HDTV Cable, same story, just great! Ive read some reviews that some people dont like the “touch of red” but to be totally honest, i cant even see it unless i open all the windows and have direct light, then you can see it. otherwise, in a normal lit room, you can see a little red on the bottom and thats about it. connections with hdmi make this tv super easy for anyone to set up bluray, surround sound, and any accessories with ease, but again if you have my problem you can still call 1-800-samsung, and get free support.
Cons: there arent a whole lot of big complaints i have with this purchase. when moving it to another angle and turning the screen, it wobbles a bit but thats expected with a heavier tv. the one thing i would complain about, is the screen is more glossy than my 5 series 46″ lcd. one of the reasons i bought lcd vs. plasma a few years ago, was the glare factor. though this glare is not as bad as plasma, there is still a glare. anyone with windows directly behind you while watching tv…. will definatly see it. light anywhere else in the room, once the tv is ON, you cant really see it unless you try. but if there are windows behind you, or lamps on, you can directly see glare. i watch tv in a darker room so it wont be too much of a factor for me. i opened up my curtains , and have a window 8 ft wide directly to the right of my tv, and with broad daylight coming in from the side, no problems. if i turn on my lamp … i can see, so think about your room, and how the tv will be placed.
besides these notes, i would buy this tv again. i can hook up my hd camera with ease, view pics, set up my Wii or game cube without issues, and plenty of options to change as far as brightness, color, etc. i havent hooked up the internet cable yet but i look foward to playing with those options and seeing everything this tv can do!
On a side note, really consider buying the extended warranty from where ever you get the tv from, it saved my life. i paid an extra $200 2 years ago when i got my 46 inch, and as luck would have it, it broke, and i got this tv to replace it, and only paid the difference in cost which was only a couple hundred bucks. not bad for a tv worth three grand!
5 Stars Great value
Considering this is in Samsung’s 6-series line (read: budget), the features and picture quality are top-notch. Like most people, I considered an LED backlit (not perimeter lit) higher end set. While I agree that the black level is nicer on the LED lit sets, it is not twice as good to justify the price. Same thing with 240Hz, it’s an improvement, but not a must-have. 3″ vs 1″ thick… once it’s on the wall, 7′ away from you, I doubt you’ll care much.
With a TV like this, you want to spend time reading up on settings to tweak it for your room and your tastes. But, out of the box, the TV performs beautifully, the color and contrast are excellent. Sound… well I’m not sure, since I don’t use the onboard speakers.
I was able to get this with the free blu-ray player for $2K shipped, turned the player around on ebay for 200 bucks so the set was $1800 net.
If you are considering a TV this size, definitely go down to your local shop to check out the bezel as it definitely has some red highlights and is a bit bigger underneath the set than some of the more minimalistic designs out there. That design element may bother some.

5 Stars Great TV
TV works great. Great price too. Put Tv above fireplace and it looks great. Couldn’t have asked for a better deal.
5 Stars Awesome!
Awesome! Great TV! Great Price! Don’t think twice to buy this from Amazon. Delivery was spot on. They took it out of the box and put it on the pre-assembled stand. They connected it to my DVD and Cable Box and demo ‘ed it to me. Even explained the functions for a little while. Great experience! Good bye Home theater store (Modia)…for ever!
5 Stars Like it
I had the A550 model before this (it was stolen and the insurance company replaced it with the B550 model) and I like this one as much as the last one. My only gripe is that I don’t like the clear plastic at the bottom of the tv (I realize it’s for the red LED but I don’t plan on using that).
Also, from the A550 page on Amazon, a reviewer offered some advice for the sound setup. [...] I think it needs a little more mid, but it should get you closer to a reasonable audio setting. If you have iTunes, open the equalizer and try out the presets to get a feeling for how to structure the audio settings (I prefer the jazz setting, for reference).
5 Stars Very good picture, with a litte bit of tweaking
I received this tv as a warranty replacement for a 56″ dlp. I was initially not happy to be getting a smaller screen, and I was not looking to own an lcd. My fears were unfounded, as the B550 is turning out to be an excellent set.
I have been tweaking the settings on this set using the HFCR software and a Spyder2. I’m not an expert… I just like tweaking to get as good a picture as I can out of the set. The grayscale tracking on the tv is excellent (once adjusted), and it can be controlled very well through the standard user settings (the gain and offset settings in the advanced menu).
The out of the box settings on the set are almost blinding, and on the cool side. Turn the backlight down to 4, set the mode to “Movie” and turn off all of the picture enhancements. The results after tweaking in the user settings and service menu have been *excellent*.
Info is very sparse about the 550 series. You can find lots of technical info here : [...]
In case anyone is looking for panel information, my set has a code of SS02.
I recently purchased a Blu-ray player, and the picture on the B550 is amazing.
The only downside I can come up with is that the contrast will drop as you move too far off center. The colors remain accurate, but a “haze” develops as you pass 45 degrees. The stand does allow the set to be turned, which makes this a non-issue for me, but if you are mounting the set on a wall, it may be a bigger issue.
I was very nervous about getting a 5-series Samsung. Don’t worry if the 6 or 7′s are out of your price range… the 5 series seems to be very capable of providing a great picture.
4 Stars Great TV Great Amazon Service
Love the TV and only had one problem with delivery. The first one they shipped was destroyed in shipping. But Amazon had a new one being processed for shipping before the truck was out of the driveway.
One minor negative about the TV. You pretty much can’t use a TiVo remote to switch between picture sources. The Tivo will pull up the list of inputs and allow you to change but there is no way to then remove the source menu so you have to clear it with the TV remote.

5 Stars Crisp Picture
Clear, sharp picture and the price was excellent due to a $300 discount. I researched HDTV’s for about 1 year before going to this one. There are some higher pixel TV’s out there but only the very discerning eye will see the difference. They are also $1,000 or more higher in cost and I could not justify that. You will not be disappointed.
5 Stars one of the best TV ever
all the features worked as expected. The only minor issue I had with this TV is the glossy finish on the screen which creates glare while watching TV during daytime. If I swivel the TV a few degrees, it helps with the glare coming from the window.
5 Stars Coolest TV in the Market
I have been searching a best HDTV in the market. I have read a lot of reviews on different sites and personal visits to best buy stores to have a look at it.
When I was about to buy LN46A750, I have got this model and I was little scared to buy this as it just entered the market. As I have got the $300 off coupon and the trust that I had in Samsung LCD TV, made me to go for this excellent TV.
My friend has a XBR but after seeing this LCD TV, I don’t really like XBR picture quality which once I was thinking to buy. Overall, this is the best purchase that I have ever made on TV.
I had comcast which is too poor in HD channels. So I have switched to DirecTV and it is the best combination that I could get for HD channels.
Pros:
- Crisp pictures
- Internet ready
- Lot of choice to customize based on personal need
- Media Net
- Excellent support for PC to TV
- and a lot more
Cons:
- Lesser Price
)
Highly recommended! Planning to buy one for my brother
Happy viewing!!!
4 Stars great image and cool features but also some issues
This is my first hd and I like it a lot but it took some time to get it right and Samsung customer service while friendly and polite is not very knowledgable.
First the positives:
1. the image is beautiful (some people complain of reflective screen and this is true but it does not affect picture at all).
2.The sound is not bad at all (after reading some reviews complaining of the sound I was worried I’d have to use my home theater always but if it is not turned on I think the sound is quite decent).
3. I have an ethernet cable so I connected it to my network and now I can see all my videos, pictures on my pc on the tv without problem.
4. I also used a flash usb to see movies on the tv and the image was decent (not hd probably because of source recording)but I am not sure why the sound was off by a sec (the mouth moves and the sound does not match… maybe a more tech person can tell you what that is…).
Now my issues:
1. My tv kept on having tiling and audio loss. Always when watching Comcast premium channels in Hd and a lot more noticable at night. Called Samsung and they just told me it is comcast it happens all the time… after 6 times of having comcast come and change everything (box, wires, wires to my house, etc)the issue seems to finally have been resolved though it is too soon to tell.
2. Preloaded content: it is sooooo lame!!! Kids stories too simple graphics and too few options. Fitness has only serene sounds??? Cooking has recipes not interactive. Only 1 game! also I tried to download additional content and it says my tv is already full…. I asume there must be a way of using a usb stick… but it is not in the manual….
3. Internet tv (yahoo widgets): are easy to work but there is way too few options available. Also the widgets offered do not match the manual. (for eg. there is supposed to be netflix, showtime… I can’t find them yet and Samsung is not helpful).
4. The manual is really hard is not thorough. First I hate the usb stick as you cannot skip to the page you need so i had to download a pdf version. Even with that stuff like internet tv and pre loaded content is not clear.
5. Samsung customer service is not the most knoledgable which worries me. Let me give you an example of one of one of my many conversations while setting up. I am trying to hook up the optical audio output so I see there is a little movable cover;I called to see what to do with it and the agent after 3 minutes of research tells me well just take it out, so I say it does not come out, are you sure I has to come out? she says after 5 more minutes on hold just take it out with a screwdriver…. I hang up still uneasy to do that and try to just push the optical audio in using the wire and see the cover just turns in by itself without coming out….imagine if I used the screwdriver!!
6. 240hz: I assumed before buying it that I’d use it in fast movies, games, etc. Well, Comcast hd box is in 60hrz. so all my movies on demand, premium channels, games, etc are on 60 hz. I have not been able to use 240 at all since i have no blue ray…. wish i knew this before shelling extra money if the feature is not available….
7. Sounds that comes out of tv is stereo! This is even when you use the optical output!!!! So if you want to have 5.1, 7.1, you have to connect each device straight to hometheater bypassing the tv which is not always feasible.
Hope it helps!!!
5 Stars 46B750
this tv really is awesome! i love the picture and all the adjustment capability.i wish i would have bought the 52 in. but it was a little too much.all in all i`m pleased with my purchase and my new settings.
