4 Stars so far so good
Received the Sony Bravia tv that I ordered on time and in good condition. Driver was very courteous and plugged in tv to make sure it was working but despite what Amazon said he would do, he did not put it on the stand or hook anything up. I did all the labor but it was not really any problem at all. Directions were very easy to follow and understand to set tv up but be sure you read them all the way through before you start or you may have to reset again from beginning. Picture was absolutley beautiful in hi def.and the sound really dynamic…lots of choices to tweek the picture and sound but not really neccessary right now. Did’nt even have to upgrade to a cable box but just went right into tv and picked up even more stations than I was getting before, including digital and many in hi def. Some really cool features include the tv guide selection on the remote control, but it took about 2 weeks for it to finally load up and work properly instead of the 24-48 hrs Sony said but my guess is that it was a cable issue. All is working well and I hope will continue for a long time but I’ve only had it for a month and electronics can be tricky. Not sure if I will get the extended warranty but I probably will in time. I researched a long time to find the right lcd flat screen for me and I think I picked a winner. Works great with the vcr/dvd player I already had. It’s my first flat screen and my first purchase from Amazon. Saved big bucks over brick and mortor stores. I would do it again , but only from Amazon with I think a little better service.

5 Stars Excellent product, excellent service.
Product arrived in two days, and is an excellent product at a price hundreds of dollars less than at retail stores in the Atlanta area.

2 Stars Poor picture quality in low light
For me, this tv looks great when watching sports or similar during the day. When watching a movie at night, however, the picture is horrible. Way too much backlight bleed from the top two corners. I thought it must be a defect and had Sony ship out a new one … same problem. Then they sent someone out to look at it and ended up telling me this is just the way it is. They might be right as looking around the net you see many similar complaints.

Very disapointed – this is not the 5 star set as advertised on this site. Not much point to the blu-ray player I also purchased when the tv picture is so bad when showing a dark picture. Do not buy this tv if you want to watch movies.

5 Stars My 1st 1080p HDTV
This Sony Bravia 1080p 120Hz W-Series 40 inch is the best gift I’ve purchased for myself in years. Though technology is continuously advancing I purchased at a time when this item was at it’s lowest just above $1,000. Because just about everyone else purchased their huge LCD HDTV’s too early my “little” 40 inch is MORE advanced than theirs. This set has an AUTO adjust – meaning I was watching a regular DVD and the set auto adjusted to full screen. It also auto adjusted the cable HD channels to full screen the first time and it just stays full screen. The Cable HD channels are wonderfully clear and crisp however the 120Hz does not kick in. I think it’s because the networks are not that advanced enough just yet. So it’s just the 1080p HD that’s at work. BUT when watching a Blu Ray DVD or playing the PS3 games THAT’s when I can CLEARLY see the 120Hz working. I purchased special 120Hz HDMI 12 foot cables 10.3GBPS (from Amazon only $14 or $15) to ensure the picture quality is not lost. The picture is bright and very colorful. As technology advances this set will last through a few years because of the 120Hz. So it’s a great buy for today, especially before the stock market bounces back!

4 Stars Great picture–input options limited
The picture and the transaction were (are) flawless. I bought this to solve an input problem with my home theatre, and it didn’t solve that, but otherwise, it’s a terrific TV.

Eclipse The Twilight Saga Book 3

Eclipse The Twilight Saga Book 3

The legions of readers who are hooked on the romantic struggles of Bella and the vampire Edward will ecstatically devour this third installment of the story begun in Twilight, but it’s unlikely to win over any newcomers. Jake, the werewolf met in New Moon, pursues Bella with renewed vigilance. However, when repercussions from an episode in Twilight place Bella in the mortal danger that series fans have come to expect, Jake and Edward forge an uneasy alliance. The plot patterns have begun to show here, but Meyer’s other strengths remain intact. The supernatural elements accentuate the ordinary human dramas of growing up. Jake and Edward’s competition for Bella feels particularly authentic, especially in their apparent desire to best each other as much as to win Bella. Once again the author presents teenage love as an almost inhuman force: “[He] would have been my soul mate still,” says Bella, “if his claim had not been overshadowed by something stronger, something so strong that it could not exist in a rational world.” According to Meyer, the fourth book should tie up at least the Edward story, if not the whole shebang. 5 Stars Awesome
Can not wait to read the next book, every book is better than the last.

5 Stars My Rubachem Review is that this Twilight Saga is eclipses all other books!! And that’s no scam!
This is my favorite book in the series. My Rubachem review is that the flow and rhythm in this book is no scam! It is the real dela and you will savor every page. What a writer!

5 Stars stunning
I am 33 and thought this book was beautifully written. It is my favorite of the Twilight Saga. I have read it twice already. Stephenie Meyer did an amazing job bringing this characters to life.

5 Stars Good Book!!
Another good book in the series!! The first one is still my favorite, but this was very good too! If you liked the first and second you will like this one!! I could read dozens more in this series, if only there were that many more. By far my favorite series of books thus far!

5 Stars I loved this book*
This is a response to the people that wrote terrible reviews of this book saying they didn’t like how Edward is too gushy, Jacob is manipulative, and Bella is the damsel in distress.

I loved this book from start to finish.

Edward has realized how wrong it was for him to leave in the first place, and all he’s going to do is try to make it up to Bella and never lose her again, of course he’s not going to be cocky around her-only with Jacob because they are fighting for the girl they both love.

Jacob is I don’t know if you noticed-a werewolf. Hormones, arrogance, puberty, temper, sarcasm-he’s a boy. He’s trying to convince Bella that he should be the one with her, and as he sees it she’s the one being stupid because she’s taking back the man that abandoned her.

Bella is a clutz, un-coordinated, has bad luck, attracts danger…of course she’s going to be a damsel in distress. (if you finish the series and read the fourth book you hopefully won’t be bothered anymore by her helplessness) She does depend on Edward for her happiness, and whether or not that’s healthy that’s what makes their relationship so juicy-they only want to be together, nothing else.

The love triangle is exciting to me, it’s about her trying to make everyone happy which isn’t possible.

I think the relationship between Edward and Jacob is the best and most interesting part of this book, the chapter fire and ice is one of my favorites in the whole series.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, I just wanted to share mine. Thanks for reading this, hope you look at the wonderful things about these books and don’t get caught up in the negative.*

5 Stars Great Install.. Especially Screws
If you’ve ever mounted a TV before, you know drilling those screws into the stud can be an absolute pain.. pushing hard and risking stripping the screws. This mount had a great system. After you drill the pilot holes, use a socket wrench to install and tighten the screws. Amazingly simple and hassle free. Love it. Yeah watch the levels they are not accurate. Use your own. What a deal for so cheap. The tilt works as designed as well.

4 Stars Great mount, great customer service, but took some time
It took about five days to receive this product and I only got the metal pieces. I called the company and they shipped the mounting hardware in two days and emailed me installation instructions immediately. I didn’t have to sit on hold forever and they were very friendly and helpful. We used this to hold a 42″ Samsung and so far so good! Oh and like everyone else has also said, don’t use the level because it’s definitely not accurate. :)

4 Stars Pretty Good
So i bought this mount because of the good reviews posted about it. Everything was great until I had to mount the wall bracket. Being the perfectionist I am it took me close to an hour to figure out exactly how I want it hung, ie; height, where my outlet was, ect. Once I figured out where I wanted it to go it took only 15 minutes or so to get the wall mount set. Everthing from there was great but the reason why I marked a 4 star was due to the lack of illustrations in the directions. I’m a visualy learner and this lack of information is probably why it took me an extra 30 or so minutes.

All in all a good product. Total installation time was 1 hour.

5 Stars Why wait??
Excellent mount for the price! As others have said, don’t pay 2 or 3 hundred, that’s just insane. This mount was every bit as good as a Sanus mount costing $90-$160 at a discount retailer! DON’T PAY THEIR PRICES!! JUST GET THIS MOUNT!! Awesome quality at an excellent rpice!!

3 Stars Not so heavy duty TV mount
The price on this TV wall mount was too good to pass up, but it is not very sturdy! This mount is barley capable of supporting a 50″ plasma. I am using it now for 4 months, but I worried about it the 1st week. So far it is still holding.

Settling Accounts Return Engagement Book One of the Settling Accounts Trilogy

Settling Accounts Return Engagement Book One of the Settling Accounts Trilogy

In this well-thought-out alternate history, the first in a new trilogy, Turtledove (American Empire) combines elements of the Civil War and WWII with disturbing results. Confederate President Jake Featherstone has launched an undeclared war of revenge on the U.S.A., with Rebel “barrels” (tanks) cutting the nation in half. U.S. President Al Smith doesn’t sue for peace as expected, causing unreconstructed Canadians to sabotage the now-vital Northern rail system holding the nation together. Mormon separatists have once more revolted against the federal government, and Louis Armstrong, who has defected to the North, brings with him chilling evidence of the Confederate “population reductions” (genocide) of African-Americans. Turtledove’s depiction of how easily the C.S.A. could carry out genocide—and do so with less cost to the conscience than the Germans experienced in the real Holocaust—coupled with the “so what?” reaction of Northerners when this is publicized makes a disturbing commentary on the state of race relations in both parts of our country. While some of the character descriptions are repetitious, the author handles his huge cast with admirable skill. The insights into racial politics elevate this novel to a status above mere entertainment, although it provides that aplenty.

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars Battled between 3 and 4 stars – Unique narrative.
I just finished this book this past night. I got it for the Kindle for free.

Overall I liked the book. The author has a different way of narrating the story. He has maybe 10 or 15 different characters that are involved in the conflict. He dedicates few pages to each one in turns. I believe this is an interesting idea. This allows him to write hundreds (or maybe even thousands) of pages without getting too boring. If you get bored with one of the characters you have to hang on only for a few pages and you will have the opportunity to read from another character.

He uses different characters with different objectives and backgrounds. There is a doctor, an aviator, some politicians, few spys, a mexican, some generals, some navy men, etc. Each one has a different perspective on the war.

The story seems pretty straightforward. Not a lot of surprises. For example, at one point some of the characters decide it would be a good idea to kill an specific officer fighting for the other country. Few chapters later the author has a snipper shoot at the officer. You kind of expect that this will happen. So when it does happen there is not a lot of surprise.

In addition some of the characters are not very well developed. For example, there is a general that seems like a charicature. You know he is going to fail the first time he is introduced.

And some of the dialogue seems very unlikely. The doctor character seems to be always having the same dialogue with one of his subordinates. Over and over again.

My overall assessment for this book would be somewhere between 3 and 4 stars. I decided to go with 4 because of the novelty of the approach – I liked the idea of narrating the story from several different characters. I also decided for the 4 stars because I want to read the second book in the series.

5 Stars Alternative History at Its Best
Many people don’t like these kinds of books. Harry turns history into a classic bookseller.

1 Star Too expensive even at $0.00
I downloaded this book to Kindle because it was one of the free offers for the month, and I thought I’d try a new author. I’m afraid I didn’t enjoy it much. I normally compulsively finish books I begin, but I deleted this one from Content Manager after the first two chapters.

The storyline is that the South is fighting the North again, but this time, it is in the 1940′s and the North has a Socialist President. And at least one female, single-mom, Socialist congresswoman. The story is written from the congresswoman’s POV, and very much emphases intelligence and understanding over physical strength, so you’d think it would appeal to a woman, but it didn’t hold my attention. I always felt as though I were reading a book, rather than slipping into another world.

I did enjoy the free download of Charlie Huston’s book (Caught Stealing) and am looking forward to reading more of Huston’s books.

1 Star Boring beyond tolerance
I have spent the last week reading this book. Mind you, I am not done. I have been trying very hard to be interested because I got it as a free download on my kindle. I thought I at least owed it to the author/publisher to read this. I can’t anymore. It is putting me to sleep. I keep wanting it to be over… I read to be entertained or to be educated, this serves neither purpose.

The concept of an alternative history of the United States is a plausable background for a novel and I love historical novels but this is giving me a brain freeze.

I think it is time for me to hit that delete key on my kindle and move on to Eat Shoots and Leaves.

3 Stars The Reviews are more Entertaining than the Book
These books are sort of infuriating. If you get pulled into the narrative, then they become hard to put down – sort of like a bag of pistachios.

Turtledove is a formula writer. Take a war, make up a dozen or so characters, each representative of a particular group. Start from the premise that something is different about the war from actual historical events, such as it is between the US and Confederacy instead of US and Germany. Give each character an identifying characteristic, such as Jewish exclamations, propensity to sunburn. Lay out the time line, turn on the word processor and start stringing together the time line by writing ten pages or so about each of the characters.

The writing cries for an editor. This is not so much a series of novels, but one long novel that is two and a half times as long as War and Peace; each volume ends after approximately 640 pages. Turtledove makes up words, “barrel” for tank, “flabble” for complain (loosely). This can be jarring, especially his use of the word “flabble” which occurs several hundred times in this series (I counted them on my Kindle).Only the first of these books has any kind of a story arc or sense of a conclusion at the end.

Still there is something wierdly compelling if you are prone to this kind of thing. Turtledove has some real talent as a writer, and badly written as this series is, it still has some narrative force. He also has quite a bit of imagination and intelligence, every now and then he has some intriguing ideas.

If Turtledove were to take the time to read what he wrote and cut it down to a second draft, he’d probably be a good writer. If he were to spend some time polishing in addition, he’d be a very good writer. And, if he had a decent editor on top of that he could be an excellent writer. Alas, he is a writer with intelligence, talent, good ideas and a lot of energy, but his books are poorly written and overly long.
