5 Stars Impressed
Very impressed. My roommate recently moved out and took his 50″ Samsung DLP with him. Fortunately, this TV was not only cheaper, but also MUCH higher quality than the Samsung. The entire Southern wall of our apartment is a sliding glass window, and this TV shows absolutely no glare. The viewing angle is amazing! The contrast is beautiful – I have never seen a TV that looks this sexy.
I would STRONGLY recommend this TV to anyone looking for a 42″. 720p looks 100% the same as 1080p for this size TV – you’d be paying more solely for bragging rights (but anyone who knows better will be laughing at you).
My only complaint about this is the speakers. For any AV input, the speakers are plenty loud and I set the volume to 15 out of 100. However, for cable the sound is greatly diminished and I have to turn the volume up to 60 or higher. You don’t want to be using a T extensively at near maximum volume because the speakers will eventually tear. I have some loud computer speakers, but unfortunately there is no Audio Out jack that size on this TV, just the red/white RCA cables jacks. No problem though, I’ll just have to throw down a few bucks for a conversion cable.
Overall 5+++ stars. I bought this TV from [...] with an amazon card I simultaneously opened. I got 6% back just from using the card, and $[...] off my first purchase, so the TV only cost me around [...]. Shipping was free, and [...] got the TV here in less than a week in perfect condition.
5 Stars Great Quality LCD TV – Best In It’s Price Range
I purchased this model after extensive research and viewing comparible models at my local Buy More (or was it Best Buy?). This particular model was side by side with a 42″ plasma and I could not tell the differance. Initially I was leaning towards Plasma because of it’s reputation of less motion blur and better viewing angle, but I have to say that that reputation is outdated. I saw no motion blur in fast action sequences and the picture quality did not change until I was almost direct beside it.
What made me choose the LCD was the much lower power consumption of the LCDs (2 cents per killowatt hour vs. 9 cents for for the Plasma) and the brightness since it will used in a room with south-facing windows.
Whan I used it during a bright afternoon, it was even easier to view than the old 32″ CRT TV. The LCD screen seems more non-reflective than the old glass CRT screen.
Sound-wise it is excellent. I’m an old-school audiophile who enjoys good sound, and this sounds great with just a smidgen of bass increase in the settings. Since the sound is reflecting from the table-top and the wall behind it, the sound pacement can really matter. If for instance you wall-mount this model, the sound quality may be less pleasing and may require auxiliary speakers – that’s probably true for for ANY flat screen TV.
All in all I’m extremely pleased.
5 Stars Great picture, sound, hi-def from broadcast channels
I bought the LG-42LG30 about one month before Christmas last year, as the price dropped below $750. I use a Radio Shack antenna on the roof (80 inch VHF/UHF model) and the antenna signal goes through a splitter so I get FM radio signal for the receiver, a converter box for an old VCR, and the TV. After checking out the “antennaweb” site, I aimed my antenna as per the location of the broadcast towers, and I get ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, and three public stations including the high-def ones. I also got some religious stuff that I promptly deleted from the channel list.
The TV gets great High-def broadcast signals so we watch all the prime time shows that we like, plus the classy public stuff like Masterpiece Theatre and Nova. I also bought a factory-refurbished Harman-Kardon 355 surround receiver that drives two Large Advent speakers at the front, and a pair of Smaller Advents as the surround channels. I have an Oppo upconverting DVD player that allows you to have hi-def compatible signals using ordinary DVDs, and the picture I get is every bit as sharp as the broadcast hi-def. I recently watched “Wall-E” and enjoyed it even more than I did at the theatre. The surround system balances up perfectly and is just amazing. No subwoofer needed.
But even with the receiver turned off, the LG TV speakers are clean, uncolored and smooth. They only lack the deepest bass but not a problem for 95% of the program content.
The Oppo DVD player is a great item, and it has excellent audio outputs including discreet channel outputs which work in the HK direct channel inputs. It plays every type of audio and DVD disc except Blu-ray. But I won’t be getting blu-ray anytime soon, as the Oppo gives a great picture that looks high-def to my eyes, especially since I am over ten feet from the screen. One more thing-When I am watching hi-def broadcasts, the TV’s digital audio out goes directly to the HK receiver via an optical cable, and the receiver automatically switches to “Dolby Digital” so you get pure surround audio with the picture. Can’t beat it. I am a cheapskate but I don’t like to compromise, so do yourself a favor, save some money and buy this TV!
5 Stars Great Value
Secondary TV for the residence – priced right, and the process is absolutely the easiest and most beneficial I can imagine. Whole thing took only a couple of days and everything works properly. This is our new process for all our needs – as we can manage it
1 Star Garbage
Please learn from my mistake and don’t buy this TV! The picture quality doesn’t hold a candle to my old fashioned Sony 27-inch. The swivel stand is weak and shaky and the audio is too low at full volume. In my opinion anyone who gives a thumbs-up to this TV is either too easily satisfied or infatuated with the fact that the picture is bigger than their old set. The dark colors fade into each other and you can never adjust the picture to get it just right. Unless you’re in a straight line in front of the set at all times the picture is dark and extremely disappointing. Do yourself a favor: if you want real quality buy one of the better plasmas or save up to buy a higher quality LCD set. Trust me on this, “entry level” or not no one should throw away their money on this junk. You’ve been warned!
UPDATE:
Well its been two months and I stand by everything I said. I’ve gotten used to watching it although that doesn’t mean I like seeing anyone on TV who wears black pants against a black wall look like he he’s wearing the wall since black colors run into each other as a solid blob of black. Mostly I just want to ask: What’s with the dopes who said my review was unhelpful (2 out of 2 to be exact)? Probably LG employees or just Kool-Aid drinking dolts. Try reading the Consumer Reports review, geniuses, where among other things this TV got the lowest rating of any 42 inch set on off-angle viewing. Yay! Let’s bring back the old “perfect stereo diamond” concept to TV!

The Wall Mount is ideal for obtaining side-to side rotation and upward/downward tilt. It supports LCD screens up to 44 lbs. Compatible with screens that have VESA 50mm/75mm/100mm mounting hole patterns. Arm extends from wall up to 17.7″ or folds flat to save space. The two arm assembly allows the full articulation of the monitor/keyboard, folds up to 3″ from the wall and extends 17.7″ to the center mounting of the monitor. This mount has two articulating joints which together provide 180 degrees of movement. Cosmetic cover provides cable management. How to check whether this mount fits your LCD? First the weight of your LCD must be less than 44 lb. If your LCD Monitor or TV has 4 holes on the back of the screen that are either50mm, 75mm or 100mm apart from each other vertically and horizontally, then this bracket will fit. If you currently have a stand attached to your LCD TV this is usually removed prior to fitting the wall mount and 4 holes should be revealed.
2 Stars Bad Product!
I was unsatisfied with this product, the wall mount that I purchased was not what I expected. Althoug my LCD TV is mounted by this wall mount, the process was long and difficult. The instructions that came with the product where not detailed at all. Also the screws that came with the product did not fit my TV, I had to buy them seperatley, the first time the TV was mounted was unsuccessful, the wall mount came of my wall and left a hole. I had to build an extra support so that the mount would not come off and also the screws that came to mount the wall mount to the wall were unable to support my tv even though the tv was under the max weight. At the end, when it was up and ready, I sat down and was agitated because the tv tilted to the left but just left it the way it was. What can I say, I paid for a $26.00 wall mount and that is what I got.
1 Star Pure Junk
it said this product sold for over $100, I gave $18, this product isnt worth the shipping I paid. No directions came with it. Very unstable. Pure hunk of Junk made in China, You get what you pay for. Maybe we should start making stuff in the US
4 Stars Tilt & Swivel Mount
I would say this is a “pretty good” product. It was less than half the price of anything I found locally and once mounted I have been happy with its performance. You will need to take your time when mounting and I had to shim the bottom by a good 1/4″ to get the LCD screen to be level. The cover hides the shim so all is good. For the money I would recommend this product to anyone is comfortable with deviating from the standard mounting instructions to get the best results.
3 Stars Good value
Great price but bracket does not fit for 32″ tv. I had to build custom mounting plate to account for the difference. Does support 32lb TV.
5 Stars wallmount bracket
Easy to install I used it for a 24 in. Samsung. Was able to make adapter with rear part of stand. Nice product. Thanks

4 Stars Good Product. Great Service.
Well I expected the TV to be wonderful, and it is. But the big surprise was the care with which Amazon’s took over after the sale. Two guys with a truck arrived at our door three days ahead of schedule, carried it in, unpacked it, made sure it was free of any dents or scratches, programmed it with our signal and were gone in under half an hour.
If that was “White Glove Delivery,” I would highly recommend it.
4 Stars Still impressed after 2 months of use.
I’ve been using this TV for 2 months now, and I’m still very impressed.
I found very few reviews of this TV anywhere, so was rather unsure about buying it. I was choosing between this and the Samsung LN40A550, and I was leaning towards the Samsung mostly because I had seen it once(at Costco) and was impressed, and its very well reviewed. I went and saw both the TVs at BestBuy and to be honest, I could not tell the difference.
The Samsung LN40A550 sat next to one of the other Samsung’s own 120Hz models, and the difference is striking, the 120Hz is so much better. I tried HD and standard definition signals on both TVs and in Standard Definition, the Sony seemed better, and in HD they looked the same.
I use the TV for DVDs, playing my XBOX 360, and streaming movies from Netflix over my Xbox360. The streamed movies from Netflix all look good ( about 3.5 out of 5 ); HD streams from Netflix ( like 30 Rock) are simply excellent. Xbox360 games look awesome, and DVDs are the best part: standard DVDs look really great on this TV. I’ve seen DVDs play much worse on other HDTVs, so that was one area I was expecting some disappointment, but was pleasantly surprised. The TV also has different “wide”-ness settings for changing the aspect ratio, or removing those letter boxes. If the original video quality is good, this is quite nice, but if the original video is bad, it makes it much worse. The matte screen does a good job of not reflecting anything and you can get a pleasant picture unless the sun is shining directly on to the screen. The blacks are really deep, and the colors are great. They are a little less brighter than the colors on Samsung, but appears more natural. The quality of the picture when there is a lot of motion on screen is also very good and clear.
On the flip side, The TV’s stand does not swivel, and its as if its tilted to the front a bit(I noticed this based on other reviews) ; I personally don’t have a problem with the non swivel stand, but the Samsung LN40A550′s stand does swivel. It may come in handy if this is a living room TV and you wanna turn it slightly every once in a while. The tilt is hardly noticeable, unless you specifically look for it. The TV does not play nice with my laptop; My laptop has a lower resolution, but I expected the TV to adjust to it; It gives me all ghosted and weird visuals over a standard S-Video cable. An HDMI cable clears up the picture from the laptop a bit, but its still unusable. Don’t hope to use this as a large screen for you laptop/desktop computer. The speaker volume is slightly low I’d say, but this may be due to the source. When I play games I keep it in the 20′s and its pretty loud; but for movies, I usually have to crank it up to 60′s or 70′s! The sound is much better than the Samsung though.
Overall I think I got great value for the price I paid. Best buy was offering this for $999(and so was Amazon) and I had a BestBuy gift card. put together his one turned out to be cheaper (I got it for 999-120 = 880 ). I give 4 stars for the performance, took out 1 star for not playing nice with my laptop.
+ Excellent picture quality in both Standard and High Definition.
+ Normal DVDs look really great.
+ Matte screen is great at preventing reflections.
+ Picture settings are easy and great.
- Audio is low for movies, but not for games.
- No swivel stand.
- Does not play nice with my laptop.
There are definitely better TVs out there, as a visit to the nearest best buy or other store will tell you, but if you’re on a budget, this one and Samsung LN40A550 is something definitely worth looking at.Samsung LN40A550 40-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV
5 Stars First rate product
I was very hesitant at first when I saw te low price on Amazon, but I thought I could not go too wrong with a Sony. I’m glad I made the purchase. The TV arrived very well packaged and the setup was a breeze even for a non-techie like me.
The colours are amazing and the overall picture quality superb. I can’t express adequately how happy I am with my purchase, but I can tell you all my Television sets in the future will come from Sony and Amazon.
5 Stars A Superb Picture At a Low Price
Even before calibrating the Custom setting, the picture on this SONY is superior or as good as all sets near its price by 20%, making the savings on a cheaper bargain brand moot. It’s only competitor for picture, especially the depth of the blacks and detail in the dark areas (which can be calibrated) is the Panasonic 42″ Plasma. In our bright room, it is superior. Off angle viewing is not as good but doesn’t apply to our environment. The black correction is high, medium and low so experimenting with it during different times of the day will relinquish the best setting. The room light contrast and brightness correction works fairly well, but I tend to change from normal or custom and vice versa if the correction isn’t that accurate. The “Home” set-up configuration is for savvy computer heads, not too user friendly. Would I spend the $300.00 — $ 500.00 for professional calibration? No — the Blu-Ray HD Basics disk is good enough and using the Custom picture configuration with some time spent on achieving the picture you want is really good enough. I mainly left the Vivid, Normal and Cinema settings the same but changed the Cinema to a Neutral color temperature — the Warm 2 is way too amber. I normally like the cool setting as it sharpens up the hard edges of images, especially in the warm tones.
I used the new Blu-Ray “Swan Lake” and “2201: A Space Odyssey” to check out the 120hz motion coordination for movies and it works great.
5 Stars WONDERFUL!
THIS WAS A GREAT PURCHASE … SPEEDY DELIVERY, EXCELLENT PICTURE … I JUST LOVE IT! THANKS!
