3 Stars Great picture, abysmal sound
With the recent transition to all digital broadcasts, we decided to upgrade our old 13″ Toshiba instead of buying a converter box. We settled on this Samsung (LN22B460), a 22″ model. The tuner on the TV scanned and found most of the digital signals in our area easily enough, even using basic rabbit ears as the antenna. The menus on the TV are clear and easy to navigate. The picture is great — nice rich colors and good contrast — the best I’ve seen in an LCD TV of this size.
However, the sound is almost totally unacceptable. It is incredibly nasal and sounds like everyone who speaks is trapped in a big can. This must owe principally to the fact that the speakers aren’t front firing and cannot be too large given the slender cabinet. Adusting the EQ settings in the Audio menu seems to have little effect on the nasal, dry, recessed quality of the sound. My laptop computer sounds better. We’ll be keeping the TV but adding some small speakers so it’ll sound at least as good as the old $80 Toshiba 13″.
Recommended but with reservations about the sound.
5 Stars Nice TV at a good price
I’m very happy with this TV. The picture is great, and the sound is good. The Amazon site said it had three HDMI ports at the time I ordered, but the TV in reality only has one HDMI (I sent Amazon a note to correct the product description.) I wasn’t thrilled about not getting three HDMI ports, but I decided to keep the TV nonetheless since it has a great picture in the size I need and at a good price.
1 Star DOA!!
Unfortunately, this tv arrived DOA – wouldn’t turn on for the world. While I’m sure that this was a freak incident for Samsung and realize these things happen, it did not endear me to the brand…I sent it back and ordered a Sony instead (which worked from minute one and has been wonderful).
Amazon made for a pleasant return experience, but it was still a hassle and time consuming to repack and ship the dud. Rightfully or not, Samsung has probably lost my business forever – we all are short on time in life and it’s not easy to forget incidents like this.
5 Stars unbelievable
Just received my Samsung LNB460 22inch LCD from Amazon
What a beauty, even with the set off.I’ve been
a Sony person for 20 years, but this baby is impressive.
The picture is fantastic and so is the sound, perfect for
a bedroom or den.I read the start up manuel 3 times to be sure
but to my delight the set does everything for you.All you do is
answer the promps by cliking Enter and you’r done.
I’m glad I picked SAMSUNG for a change.Yes,the hardest working
people on earth sure put out great stuff lately.
Vanity Fairs Tales of Hollywood

These lively essays from Vanity Fair reveal the stories behind 13 iconic films. The attitude taken toward several of these baker’s-dozen movies is, however, more ironic than reverent. But the circumstances surrounding the making of such ringers as Myra Breckinridge, Tommy, and Cleopatra make for reading that’s not only shamefully fascinating in a car-wreck sort of way but illuminating of the maddening methods of Hollywood. Not surprisingly, though, it’s the genuine classics—among them, Rebel without a Cause, All about Eve, The Magnificent Ambersons, and Midnight Cowboy—that concern the most substantive and rewarding entries. The contributors, who include such notable entertainment writers as James Wolcott and Peter Biskind, dish up enough gossip to satisfy the casual moviegoer (e.g., Mike Nichols originally envisioned Robert Redford and Ava Gardner for The Graduate) but pair it with enough substance to satisfy hard-core film buffs. This slender volume manages to cover a surprising amount of territory. –Gordon Flagg
4 Stars On Masterpieces and Disasterpieces
This is a perfect book to read if you love movies, and it’s too cold out to go to one! Culled from Vanity Fair’s vast output of movie exposes, this compilation, from different staff writers, focuses on 13 titles. Classics like Rebel Without a Cause, All About Eve, Reds, and Midnight Cowboy are included, along with such legendary disasters like Cleopatra and Myra Breckenridge. The behind-the-scenes trivia is fun and the stories are generally well written with amusing observations from the (surviving) cast and crew of each film. Among those things I learned: Burt Lancaster was hardly a Prince among men, and Debbie Reynolds was among those considered for the heroine in “Rebel.” The chapter on “Eve” subsequently became an entire book from that writer. Includes a foreword from present-day editor Graydon Carter.
5 Stars A great tale of movie backgrounds
This is a riveting and absorbing look at the backstory of and circumstances surrounding a wide array of films, from marred classics such as “Magnificent Ambersons” to legendary flops like “Cleopatra” to triumphs like “The Graduate.”
This book is recommended for movie buffs.
3 Stars Vanity Fair’s Tales of Hollywood:Rebels, Reds, and Graduates and the Wold Stories Behind the Making of 13 IconicFilms
This book is a look at the making of some very famous movies of the 50′s/60′s/70′s and 80′s.
The stories are reprints from the original stories that were in Vanity Fair years ago with some minor updates.
Always written well and very informative.
4 Stars Movie lover’s dream!
This is a perfect book for movie lovers of all ages and preferences. The articles are very entertaining and can be read in one sitting or over a period of weeks without needing to keep up with a time line. I would eagerly purchase a second edition of this book with further movie-related articles.

5 Stars Great TV
I purchased the 46 inch version of this TV and loved it so much I wanted to get a smaller one for my room.
Great TV, competitive price, plenty of options, easy to use, and it looks great; not only it’s picture, but it’s physical appearance as well.
5 Stars Top notch LCD
I like everything about it, except for the sleep timer mode. It only registers in 30 minute intervals. It is a great size for my bedroom. I also own a 40′ Samsung. Excellent TV’s and pictures. Excellent delivery.
5 Stars Samsung 26 inch 720p HD TV
I really love this Tv, the service was great delivered in three days.
The picture is excellent. if you have trouble with sound which you will especially using an antenna get Stereo speakers sounds great. seems like your sound can be bad because the carrier signal maybe low. but this is only if your using an antenna. I live fourty eight miles from the transmitters. our antenna has an amplifier on it but it is old twenty three years so were buying a new one this month.
Anyways this tv is just great you can adjust the picture size to suit what dvd your watching. you can plug your computer or camera into it.

3 Stars Loss power after a week
I’ve own previous Sony HTIB systems and decided to upgrade to this system to increase quality and sound. You’d think the newer the model the better the upgrades, but I didn’t see any improvements to the last model. See the reviews for the hdx275, both systems are basically identical. The only thing Sony decided to do was give this line of product an aesthetic make-over, a tried and true marketing gimmick. Anyway, I just wanted to be the first to say that after a week of use, the receiver all of a sudden loss power in the middle of normal DVD play. It’s been sitting at one of Sony’s “certified” service centers for over 3 weeks while they’re still trying to figure out what went wrong. Pretty frustrating especially after having to pay postage out of pocket to send it there! I’m rating this system 3 stars because when it was working, it produced great sound and picture for the price you pay; budget system for a budget price. My only other complaint is that the sound level needs to be set pretty high for normal volume. On my older models of the same line, the sould level never needed to be set as high for the same amount of volume.
