5 Stars Sony Bravia
We purchased this 19″ Sony Bravia Television to replace an old analog television in the bedroom of our 5th Wheel RV (mounts in a swing out cabinet). The picture and sound are great and passed our expectations but the best part is that the installation was a perfect fit with no pedestals to deal with. All we have to do is un-snap 2 clips and it becomes portable again and we can take it anywhere. We highly recommend it.

3 Stars Some real answers
I have yet to make my purchase of this product but I intend to make an informed decision. I would be using this TV at university to play my PS3 and X Box 360 pro using HDMI outputs. Also I would probably be bringing it to and from different places for system link games. Which is why the handle seems a good thing for me. All of the reviews for this product do not tackle the HD capabilities of this device… How does a Blu Ray, not upscaled DVD look, or how about gaming, can anyone help?

3 Stars Just OK
This Bravia replaced a Sharp Aquos counter top model which developed a shadow on the screen after about two years of use. It is larger (about 4″) picture wise than the Sharp and was the largest set I could find that would stand on the counter and fit under an overhead cabinet. It runs off a Direct TV, non-HDTV signal.

Factory preset picture settings were just awful with a very dark picture and odd glossy flesh tones. I tried to adjust the picture a number of times but finally realized I was trying to get the colors and resolution I was used to on the Sharp, which the Bravia apparently won’t do. If my set had true factory picture presets I can guarantee anyone else buying this set will be spending a lot of time trying to adjust the picture.

In addition, unless you are viewing the set from directly in front and at set level the picture washes out excessively which is annoying since a kitchen set is usually viewed from a number of angles.

I would definitely recommend viewing and comparing this set in a store before purchasing. I will probably be looking for a replacement set and relegate this one to a guest bedroom.

5 Stars Typical Sony Quality & Great Reception
This is the second 19-inch LCD HDTV that I have bought, and the first Sony for this size.

I bought this white Sony to place in my kitchen where I have had a black Sharp 19-inch LCD HDTV (which I moved to a bedroom). Well first I found that the color is bright and the blacks are solid giving it an excellent picture. This white Sony is also a very attractive unit and perfect to have in a nice kitchen. It is also solid and easy to adjust how straight it stands up.

Plus, using the exact same rabbit ears from the Sharp HDTV it’s replacing in my kitchen, for over the air digital channels, the Sony has much better reception. I’m able to pickup more digital channels then I could with the Sharp.

I would certainly buy this Sony HDTV again.

4 Stars Great Buy !
Just purchased one of these at Costco for $249.00. Will set up and advise on the quality. This is to be used in a kitchen.

3 Stars TV wall mount
This mount works wll for my 52″ TV. Shop around. You can find a better price for a similar mount. I paid $145. You can get one for $90.

1 Star Avoid this seller!
Got the product fast, was happy with it. After I figured it out it went up really fast, 30-45 minutes. It has held the TV and not fallen.

DO NOT BUY: It was defective which I realized when it got up on the wall. The seller took 5 days to reply to my email and when they did they just sent me a 1-800 # to call. Then when I insisted they fix it, they just sent me an email with an RMA # and said send it back at my expense. No “we are sorry” “how can we help”. VERY RUDE! None responsive to any emails. They still have not written me back in 8 or 9 days now. I have this product up on my wall but can barely pull it out from the wall. It takes a lot of effort because it’s too tight and not fluid.

Sorry I was really hoping it would be a good one and it probably is, I would just avoid this seller because if by chance you get a bad one, you’re stuck with another $30 shipping bill to send it back and hope they send you a good one.

This is what I would go with instead!

CHEETAH MOUNTS PLASMA LCD TV ARTICULATING DUAL ARM WALL MOUNT FOR 32-63″ DISPLAYS UP TO 180LBS BLACK

5 Stars Great Wall Mount
This wall mount is of great quality and we got it right away. We read a couple of the reviews before we purchased it and they were very helpful in preparing us for a 5 to 10 degree play in the mount, so we were able to take care of that with a small adjustment while installing. Looks great and we love it.

4 Stars Fairly sturdy articulating mount
I bought this mount for a 50-inch plasma screen (80-100 lbs). It seems fairly sturdy, but I am not sure if I would trust it with the articulating arm fully extended due to the excess torque pulling at the wall bolts. The instructions that came with the unit were rather lame and seemed to be missing some relevant content. I think that using a stud finder is essential to install this or any other mount that is going to be used to support a heavy TV.

The mount comes with several assorted bolts for attaching the mounting arms to the back of the TV, but some were too long to use and some were almost too short to ensure enough thread engagement after tightening things. If someone needs to use the 8mm bolts, they might want to take a trip to the hardware store and pick up some mid-length ones.

The wall bracket comes with its own level indicator. However, I noticed some play in the articulating arm. Therefore, the part attached to the wall may be perfectly level, and the TV may hang at an angle due to the arm being off 5-10 degrees after bearing the load of a heavy TV. Before installing, I would recommend pulling on the articulating arm while retracted and try to rotate it to see how much play there is, and then compensate for any angle adjustment when drilling the stud bolt holes. The wall bracket may not be quite level, but the TV plate should be level (you can check by resting a separate level on this part). If the TV is mounted and seems to be listing to one side, there are four Allen head bolt in the middle of the TV mounting plate that may be able to be loosened to rotate things, but the TV will have to be removed from the mount to make the adjustment.

4 Stars Greeat product for my LCD, but for Plasma?
This works great for my LCD TV (46″ Samsung @50 lbs), however, I don’t know if I would trust it with a heavier Plasma TV. There are only 4 lag screws that connect to wood studs, which wasn’t enough for me. The wall it is mounted to has a closet behind, so I actually used 3 extra bolts and bolted it through the wall to angle iron on in the closet. Now, if the TV falls off, either the wall fell down or the product (swing arm) failed. Besides the connection to the wall, I don’t know if the swing arm could support 150 lbs 20″ from the wall.

Masters of Doom How Two Guys Created an Empire and Transformed Pop Culture

Masters of Doom How Two Guys Created an Empire and Transformed Pop Culture

Doom, the video game in which you navigate a dungeon in the first person and messily lay waste to everything that crosses your path, represented a milestone in many areas. It was a technical landmark, in that its graphics engine delivered brilliant performance on ordinary PC hardware. It was a social phenomenon, with individuals and companies hooking up networks specifically for Doom tournaments and staying up for days to blast away on them (well before the Internet went big-time). The game’s publisher, id Software, used an unusual shareware marketing strategy (give away the first levels, charge for the more advanced ones) that worked very well. On top of it all, the gore-filled game raised serious questions about decency in products meant for use by school-age kids. Masters of Doom explores the Doom phenomenon, as well as the lives and personalities of the two men behind it: John Carmack and John Romero.

This book manages, for the most part, to keep clear of the breathless techno-hagiography style that characterizes many books with similar subjects. He tells the story of Carmack, Romero, and id–which includes far more than Doom and its successors–in novel style, and he’s done a good job of keeping the action flowing and the characters’ motivations clear. Some of the quoted passages of dialog sound like idealized reconstructions that probably never came from the lips of real people, but this is an entertaining and informative book, of interest to anyone who’s let rip with a nail gun. –David Wall

Topics covered: The biographies of John Carmack and John Romero, and of their company, id Software. The development and marketing of all major id games (including Wolfenstein, Doom, Doom II, and Quake) get lavish attention.

5 Stars Great Read
While I didn’t purchase the book for me, my boyfriend (who never reads anything) loves this book. He can’t put it down and told me it’s one of the best books he’s ever read. Coming from someone who never reads, you think that doesn’t mean a lot, but the fact that he’s finished it speaks volumes!

He loves this book. He says the realism puts you right there with them and that even the littlest details gives you a great story. He likes the depth of detail within the book.

So if you can’t get your man to read- buy this book. Besides, Game Informer put this book among the best video game books ever. So my boyfriend isn’t the only one who likes it!

5 Stars Masters of Doom: How Two Guys Created an Empire and Transformed Pop Culture
I grew up with Doom 1 & 2 and Quake 1. These games had a lasting impact on me (especially Quake’s online & social network) and I’ve been curious about id Software for some time. This book gives a very detailed insight on how id Software began and the lives of the people behind it.

This book exceeded my expectations - the id guys are a wacky bunch. As an id Software fan I’m biased and I give it 5 stars. I however think it’ll be a worthwhile read for non-id fans as well.

5 Stars A story as explosive as Doom itself!
This book will give you new perspectives on gaming, business, and the human psyche - keeping you engaged throughout. It struck a chord with me as a child of the Doom generation. I’ve spent much time exploring and building levels for these games, but never had it occurred to me that there could be such a monumental story behind id and its “egos”.

Masters of Doom will leave you with a new understanding and appreciation for the folks who brought these classics to life, and every lost soul who has contributed to the gaming industry.

Even if you’ve never played Doom, this makes for a great read. And if you are a Doom-head from way back, many light switches will go on in your head as you think “wow, so THAT’s what was going on behind the scenes!” or “now I get why that game turned out with x feature or y theme.” You’ll feel like you lived the journey.

5 Stars The most inspirational book ever !
This book is absolutely magnificent. Being an avid Doom fan and having played every single iD Software game since Wolf3d, this book actually makes me feel as if I am sitting in the same room as Romero and Carmack while they made the best games ever ! It is so inspirational. I am an Electrical Engineer but this book makes me want to blast those walls down and become a game programmer or designer. David Kushner does an amazing job, this book is like the original Doom games - you cant put it down once you start. I wish I could give it more than 5 stars.

5 Stars Get this book!!
If you ever played DOOM in its heyday, you need to pick up this book. This is a captivating account of the story of ID Software from John Romero and John Carmack’s childhood, through their programming for another company, and the story behind each game that they made up to Doom 3. Honestly, of all the hundreds of books that I’ve read in my time, this has to be the best one — I simply could not put it down until I had finished it, and when I did, I wanted to start it all over again. This is how histories should be told, and if I ever write a book, I want it to be like this one.
